Already in Roman times 2000 years ago refošk (refosco), an indigenous variety of our region, was frequently referenced for its health qualities. According to historical records the Roman Empress Livija Drussila lived to the (at that time) enviable age of 86 years presumably (by many references) to her enjoyment of this "black grape" from river Timavo (Triest river from sea) that came from a "rocky hill" which produced very little yields to fill only a few amphorae. These vineyard positions can be none other than the vineyards of our estate. As it was for Livija Refošk (Refosco) is our everyday red wine – serious, powerful but also vibrant and alive due to its acidity and elegance that derive from the poor soil, altitude, and positioning of the vineyards to the sea.
